National Memorial Museum of Forced Mobilization under Japanese Occupation

The National Memorial Museum of Forced Mobilization under Japanese Occupation is located on a hill overlooking Nam-gu. It is a place where you can vividly experience the realities of forced labor during the Japanese colonial period. Memoirs of forced labor, photos, and related items collected by the government are on display.

It was built in Nam-gu, Busan, in 2014, considering the historical fact that Busan Port was the starting point of forced mobilization, and about 22% of the forced mobilization was from Gyeongsang-do. It is well-equipped with a 'Children's Experience Center' where children can play, a library, a rooftop garden, and a cafe, making it a perfect family destination. It is a travel destination where you can cool off from the heat and study history.

United Nations Peace Memorial Hall

The United Nations Peace Memorial Hall is located near the National Memorial Museum of Forced Mobilization under Japanese Occupation. It realistically describes the historical timeline of the Korean War, which lasted for several years of gunfire and bombardment and finally stopped through the conclusion of the ceasefire agreement. This space enables us to ruminate on the meaning of peace and think about the future of coexistence.

UN Memorial Cemetery

The UN Memorial Cemetery in Korea, which is the world’s only cemetery for the UN forces, is where the soldiers who sacrificed their lives during the Korean War rest. The flags of the coalition partners are flowing over the sculpture, paying respects for the unnamed, sacrificed soldiers and tombstones inscribed with the names of those killed in battle. This naturally makes visitors feel solemn. What is unique in this cemetery is the scene where visitors from all parts of the world are praying.

Busan Museum

The museum named after Busan. The Busan Museum represents Busan and embodies the history of the Republic of Korea. The Busan Museum has served not only as a place for Busan citizens to rest but also as a large-scale exhibition hall that covers the entire history of Busan from the Paleolithic Age to the modern times through the Goryeo Dynasty and the Joseon Dynasty.

The Busan Museum goes through thousands of years. It will be a special space for children to learn history outside textbooks and for adults to experience the weight of time throughout the history of Busan.

UN Sculpture Park

The UN Sculpture Park located inside the UN Memorial Cemetery is also not to be missed. This park was created to highlight the UN Memorial Cemetery as a symbol of world peace and freedom and to develop it into an international tourist attraction. Thirty-four works by sculptors from 21 countries who participated in the International Sculpture Symposium at the UN Memorial Cemetery, which was held to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Korean War, are on display.

It is a space where you can enjoy the works of world-renowned sculptors and think about peace and freedom while walking along the trail in the middle of the park. Take a break under the shade of a tree to cool off and recharge.

Oryukdo Islets

After starting from Dongsaengmal Trail and walking along Igidae Coastal Trail, you will arrive at Sunrise Park overlooking the Oryukdo Islets. It is a beautiful park where you can see a fantastic sunrise against the Oryukdo Islets, the junction between the South Sea and the East Sea. The panoramic view and the cool sea breeze are always pleasant, making it a favorite place for Busan citizens. In spring, yellow daffodils and mustard flowers are in full bloom, attracting photographers from all over the country. Now, lotus flowers are in full bloom in the lotus field created in the middle of the park, drawing attention.

If you pass Sunrise Park and go further down, there is a skywalk where you can see the Oryukdo Islets up close. An observatory with a transparent glass floor was built at a place called 'Seungdumal Hill,' meaning that the terrain looks like a horse's saddle. Thanks to this, you can feel the thrill of walking in the sky.

Walker House

Walker House was used as a temporary command building by General Walker, the commander of the Eighth U.S. Army, while directing the Allied Forces' operations. Nothing was more important than defending the Nakdonggang River defense line to the South Korean and Allied Forces, who had been pushed down to the river by the North Korean army's fierce attack.

Operation Chromite was able to succeed by protecting the Nakdonggang Riverfront under the leadership of General Walker. At Walker House in Pukyong National University, you can meet the life and spirit of General Walker, a leading figure in the Korean War who has not been widely known.

Culture Alley

If you walk along Daehak-ro in front of Kyungsung University, you will come across a unique place with trees along a narrow alley. It looks like an ordinary residential alley, but when you go inside, it is filled with a unique atmosphere, like a scene in a movie. It is Cultural Alley, a hot place in Nam-gu.

Five houses have been reborn as a unique space by tearing down the fence. As a complex cultural space equipped with galleries, small theaters, coffee shops, and bookstores, it has been loved by young people and has now established itself as a hot spot in Nam-gu. The mere fact that there is a cultural space in the alley of Daehak-ro full of bars and restaurants is enough to attract people's attention. It is also a popular photo spot for its unusual buildings and alleys decorated with plants.
