Taejongdae Park - Huinnyeoul Culture Village - Gukje Market - Yongdusan Park - Gwangalli Beach / Gwangandaegyo Bridge - Haeundae Beach - Dongbaek Coastal Trail

From the west side of Yeongdo, the best starting point is the Taejongdae Park located at the end of the island.
On a clear day, even the Tsushima Island is visible at a distance. Moreover, you could enjoy the ocean wave breaking into a white foam around the cliff, presenting a magnificent view for all the seasons of the year. You can take the Danubi Train, a convenient way to witness the entirety of Taejongdae Park. Meanwhile, in the early summer, the hydrangea garden will greet you.

The Huinnyeoul Culture Village was first built by refugees using boards on the edge of a seashore cliff. You can walk on the beautiful trail along with the seaside under the steep cliffs. In this village, there are several areas for simple and fun activities, such as wall painting, small and cozy cafés, photo studios, etc. Moreover, the village is famous as a filming location where you can see a long queue of tourists taking pictures.

The Huinnyeoul Culture Village retains the traces of the pain from the refugee time, and it appeared in the background of a “Gukje Market-themed” movie. This village is a great place to enjoy various dishes, which will definitely appease your hunger. Here, you can pause and take a break as well as spend some time roaming around the market and buying cheap used goods.

Yongdusan Park is located 10 minutes from the Gukje Market. At the center of the park, Busan Tower, a landmark of Busan, stands high. Upon reaching the observatory, you can ride in the ships traveling over the ocean, which will allow you to witness a magnificent view and feel the real energy of Busan.

On the east, you can capture the breathtaking scenery of Oryukdo Islets, where the East Sea and the South Sea of Korea meets. Hanging over the coastal cliffs soaring to the sky, the Skywalk, a glass bridge, will give you an exciting experience. This place is also popular for its sunrise, but you are advised to come toward the evening and admire the sunset over Busan’s beautiful ocean.

Afterward, you can visit the Gwangalli Beach, where you will be amazed by the night view of the Gwangandaegyo Bridge glistening like a diamond. Every night, this bridge holds spectacular shows with exterior lighting of over 100,000 colors, which seem to go in harmony with the tune of the waves.

Haeundae Beach is located very near to Gwangalli Beach, but these two present a different vibe. Walking through the Haeundae Traditional Market, you may not resist the food stalls lined up in a row behind the beach as they offer Busan’s true taste from their local food, traditional Korean food, late-night stacks, and fresh seafood.

Dongbaek Coastal Trail extends from the end of Haeundae to encircle the Dongbaekseom Island. This trail contains the Nurimaru, which was used as the APEC Summit in 2005. Walking on the ocean-surrounded trail, you will enjoy the nightscape of Haeundae, which will definitely attract you differently from the way you feel in Gwangalli.

From visiting the Taejongdae Park that has preserved the wonderful nature over a long history of time, the Huinnyeoul Culture Village and the Gukje Market that retained the traces of the refugees’ time, and to the Oryukdo Islets and beaches that greeted you with a new scenery, it will definitely be a long day, but it will truly be worth it as you would get to witness the real Busan!
