Busan Central Park, a Place of Good Luck

Among the people of Busan, this park is considered to be one of the most propitious spots in the city that exudes good energy. Situated right in the middle of the city at the coordinates 35°10'4"N and 129°2'17"E, this place is believed to bring health, happiness, and wealth. and even fertility. Locals also believe that the energy of this place also affects their children to be good sons and daughters. No wonder so many locals come here to make a wish or two. Why the coordinates? In 2001, an elementary school student was curious to know the geographic center of the city and sent the question to a SBS TV variety show called Hogisim Cheonguk (‘curiosity heaven’ in Korean) so they would find out where the exact center of the city is. In turn, the producers of the TV show had the Urban Affairs Research Institute of Pusan National University to pinpoint the location, which turned out to be 548-12 Buam-dong, Busanjin-gu. Afterwards, a central marker stone was erected there, and the Office of Busanjin-gu created a small park around the stone. The original park was demolished in 2018 for a housing redevelopment project, and the new one was recreated in the current location.

Busan Station is often the first impression that one has of the city, and the place many return to, resolving to come back again to Busan. But did you know that there is a souvenir shop in Busan Station? Get out of the station toward the Busan Eurasia Platform and look toward the Busan Station to find the Dongbaek General Store. Dongbaek General Store is large shop, so it is a great place to do some window shopping. The souvenirs are sorted neatly along their companies of origin, and thus are easy to find. One such type of souvenir was made with photographs taken by photographers in Busan. Others include souvenirs that combine Busan landmarks with Korean mother-of-pearl (jagae) craft, and things inspired by seagulls, the unofficial city bird of Busan, like the seagull bread (galmaegippang).

Park Tae-joon Museum

The Park Tae-joon Museum, which officially opened on December 14, 2021, tells the story of POSCO, which laid the foundation for Korea's growth. Built next to the birthplace of the late Honorary Chairman Park Tae-joon, the museum commemorates the achievements of Cheongam, who left a significant mark on the modern and contemporary history of the Republic of Korea, and investigates and studies his philosophy and thoughts. The approximately 1,200 artifacts displayed and stored in the memorial hall are valuable materials that lay out history and culture from the Japanese colonial period to the present. What particularly attracts attention here is the memorial quote written by the late Lee O-young. "The reason we can now sleep on high pillows is because your blood and sweat poured into the iron factory, and the reason we can hold a child in our arms and make each person dream of tomorrow is because of you, who expanded the garden of knowledge by establishing a school.“ The Park Tae-joon Museum is renowned as a building that blends in to its surrounding landscape, using its surrounding nature as a reference point. So why don’t you take a breather, hold your child’s hand, and take a look around the exhibition hall? Spend some time reading a book at the small library of Imnang Cultural Park located inside the building. It will do you good.

Bokcheonsa Temple

Number of clicks871   Number of reviews0   좋아요1
Bokcheonsa Temple, located at the foot of Bongnaesan Mountain, is famous for its sunset and night view. The temple is not well-known, perhaps because of the high slope to reach to the temple, but if you visit in person, you will soon find it a stunning place. Although the temple size is not large, everywhere makes a good photo spot because of the temple’s distinctive serene atmosphere and beautiful scenery. The main place to appreciate Bokcheonsa Temple’s night view is the Observation Deck in front of Sansingak Hall, which can be reached by the stairs beside the Daeungjeon Hall. You will see the beautiful harmonious landscape of Bokcheonsa Temple and Namhangdaegyo Bridge at the Observation Deck. It is strongly recommended to visit in time for sunset. It is not clearly visible during the day, but at night, the candle becomes a feature and seems to fill up the dark scenery with warmth. If you stand on the railing next to Cheonwangmun Gate, you will be able to see the beautiful night view of Namhangdaegyo Bridge and Songdo, so don’t forget to stop by before you go down!
