Surfing cleaving the waves is becoming a popular activity for leisure and sports.
According to the Korea Surfing Association, the population of surfers has more than quadrupled in just three years. Introduced to Korea in 1995, surfing has become popular in the country for the last few years. The starting point of surfing is Busan!
The best surfing destinations in Busan are Songjeong Beach and Dadaepo Beach as well as Gwangalli and Haeundae Beaches. Among them, Songjeong Beach is the most loved by surfers as it is the very starting point of Korea’s surfing. The sea of Songjeong is not too deep and has endless waves, making it the optimal place for the surfing lesson. Thus, the first surfing school in Korea was established in Songjeong and still has many surfing learners.
You can choose one out of many surfing schools lined up along Songjeong Beach. The surfing school, decorated exotically with colorful surfing equipment, provides warm-up exercises and basic surfing techniques through the experts. After receiving indoor education, you can go to the beach to learn the basic surfing posture or practice yoga on your board.
After finishing the basic education for two to three hours, you can go out to the sea. It won’t be easy to keep your balance on the board as you’d feel like a baby learning to walk for the first time. However, the harder you try, the easier it’d be for you to stand up on the board, among other beginners who also keep falling into the water but with smiles on their faces.
After some time of practicing, you can now begin to enjoy creating the waves with the board and commit yourself to the sea. Like a bird, you can manage to spread your arms while standing on the board, which is why numerous “human birds” enjoy surfing in the sea at Songjeong Beach.
Compared to other marine leisure and sports, surfing is easy and cheaper to experience and enjoy. Do you want to try to find a new leisure activity? Surfing in the open sea of Busan could be your next challenge! And please don’t forget to apply plenty of sunblock cream as well!
