With a similar atmosphere to California where marine leisure and sports activities are concerned, Busan is nicknamed “Busanfornia.” It has characteristic beaches to allow beachgoers to enjoy diverse types of leisure and sports activities throughout the year, and the seafront is easily accessed from downtown Busan.

When it comes to marine leisure and sports, surfing first springs to mind. However, as surfing depends largely on the size of the waves, the beginners would be afraid of trying. Thus, the Stand-up Paddleboard (SUP) is a popular alternative these days. As it is easier and more stable than surfing, beginners can enjoy paddleboarding without panic. After taking a simple lesson, you can go paddleboarding directly. Hence, people of all ages are taking a paddleboarding lesson.

Busan’s famous paddleboarding lesson takes place at Gwangalli Beach with the background of sunrise. The lesson consists of the basic position of the paddle and how to use the paddle on the sand beach before going to the sea. Participants will learn how to hold and row with the paddle while sitting on their knees, and then stand up on the board. Through this, they will know how to balance the body and in case of falling into the water, how to climb up to the board.

Now, it’s time to go out to the sea. While feeling the waves, you can try to commit yourself to the board. By looking far, you can paddle the board with force. If you manage to stand up on the board from the beginning, you have an excellent sense of balance. While balancing the body by bending your knees slightly, diligently paddle the board toward the Gwangandaegyo Bridge. Unlike the view of the sea from the beach, your whole body becomes sensitive to the waves and breezes on the paddleboard. The board will freely cleave through the water by paddling or using fingers.

There are no daily concerns and unwanted noise on the sea, only the sound of the waves. While taking refuge with nature, you can enjoy paddleboarding peacefully while alleviating stress with winds. In addition, the sun rising slowly over the Gwangandaegyo Bridge will leave you in awe.

Gwangalli is one of Busan's premier beaches for paddleboarding. Set against the backdrop of the open sea and the Gwangan Bridge, it is a captivating destination where you can admire the beauty of nature and enjoy the waters from sunrise to sunset atop a paddleboard.
