The Busan Jagalchi Festival is held every October in front of Busan’s sea. For about four days at the Jagalchi Market, a representative fish market in Busan, this festival offers fresh seafood products from generous merchants in Busan.

The name “Jagalchi” came from the geographical feature of the area, which has many pebbles (jagal). As Korea’s major fish market, the Jagalchi Market was built by many small street stands, which were created during and after the Japanese occupation and the Korean War. Through the maintenance work in the 1970s, the market has been transformed into what it is today. Because it was the filming location for a Hollywood movie, the Jagalchi Market has become popular among not only Koreans but also foreign tourists.

The Busan Jagalchi Festival consists of largely three madang (event programs). Oiso (Come) Madang offers experience events for men and women of all ages, Boiso (See) Madang offers various performances, and Saiso (Buy) Madang attracts people with its delicious food items. The festival is always packed with people because of its many attractions, entertainment programs, and food.

Oiso (Come) Madang is a place of fun experiences. In particular, the event “making of the world’s largest Raw Fish Bibimbap” attracts the attention of many people. Moreover, this event tries to break the Guinness World Record every year by increasing its quantity with interested people. After the event, all the participants share the bibimbap they made.

Boiso (See) Madang attracts people who want to enjoy exciting performances. When the Jagalchi Eoroyo performance begins, the audience also starts dancing along to its traditional merry tune. Some people take part in the “Jagalchi Hyo (filial duty) Singing Competition.” The stage is also created by talented people with an unusual feeling of tension and delight. As you continue enjoying the festival, you won’t realize that it’s getting dark.

Saiso (Buy) Madang is an essential part of the Busan Jagalchi Festival, offering diverse dishes made with Busan’s fresh seafood ingredients. People enjoy delicious food together until the festival ends at night.

In addition, the auction program is held with famous MCs, comedians, and celebrities at the Jagalchi Market.
